Issue: Who are the Collaboration providers and how will they evolve?

Summary: Videoconferencing is at an inflection point: emerging software-based offerings are disrupting traditional hardware vendors. Here we look at four emerging players.

The world is becoming more connected and interactive, and the workplace is no exception. Partly because consumer devices include video and mobile networks do a better job of transmitting video, people are using video much more than even two years ago. This research note discusses the shift that is occurring and how video collaboration can be a game changer. In his book, “The World Is Flat: A Brief History Of The Twenty-First Century,” Thomas Friedman describes a world of expanded access and opportunity, a more level playing field brought about by technology and globalization. Geographic distances are now irrelevant, as collaboration tools enable real-time interactions between people in different cultures, geographies and time zones.
