How will social software technologies evolve?

Summary: The growth of enterprise social networks is creating invaluable yet potentially isolated information about associates in the social profile. An enterprise profile that unites HCM, social-sourced, inferred and certified information about people is a critical element of an enterprise social networking strategy.

Even though a lot of data about employees is typically available in the enterprise, and social networks provide rich opportunities to know about people and their capabilities, effective use of this information to quickly identify the best resources for a specific situation or problem remains elusive. Many tools and approaches have emerged to address the challenge, but a profile strategy is an essential starting point for locating and leveraging expertise across an enterprise. This research note covers the key elements that are part of going beyond the social profile to create an enterprise profile (see Figure 1).
