Amazon Enters the Generative AI Race

Amazon Enters the Generative AI Race

Amazon announced today that it is entering the Generative AI race with the announcement of Amazon Bedrock for Generative AI and Amazon CodeWhisperer for Code Generation.

This blog discusses the announcement and its impact on the market.

Analysis – AWS and Generative AI

While the announcements came later than many expected, right now it is never too late to get into the Generative AI game. Amazon has gone on its own with Generative AI and offers its own native Titan Foundation Models. Currently, Titan has two models it can offer. It has also partnered with new names to differentiate itself.

AWS Partners for AI

The partners include A21, Anthropic, and Stability A. All in all, AWS is offering a differentiated set of models. Pricing was not announced so all of this is considered a product preview.

For the Amazon CodeWhisperer given the success of the GitHub CoPilot launch, Amazon is making CodeWhisperer free to developers for the time being.

AWS Custom Models will counter Google

Google was the first to offer the ability to develop Vertex AI Custom Models with its PaLM offering. AWS is claiming they will be able to offer custom models but at this time no pricing is available. AWS is offering revenue sharing to its AI partners and this may be something that other vendors will emulate.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that Amazon is in the game and expects them to market their offerings aggressively. The focus for Amazon will be large enterprises and Aragon Research does not expect prices to be inexpensive.
