Aragon Cares May 2023: International Museum Day

Aragon Cares is Aragon Research’s monthly activity focused on giving back to our local and surrounding communities.

For International Museum Day (May 18th), the Aragon Research team is going out to visit and support our local museums throughout May.

About International Museum Day

International Museum Day has been organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) since 1977. ICOM states their mission is to raise awareness that, “museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples”.

Every year, ICOM sets a theme for International Museum Day and this year’s is “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing.” Museums participating will feature events and activities centered around this year’s theme.

See if your local museum is participating or stop by our team’s favorite museums listed below!

Aragon Research’s Favorite Museums

Jim Lundy | CEO, Founder, Lead Analyst

Museum: National Air and Space Museum

“The National Air and Space Museum is a fantastic look back at U.S. aviation and space history. Including a look into the early Apollo capsules and the SR71.”

Patricia Sweeney-Lundy | CFO

Museum: California Academy of Sciences/Morrison Planetarium

“This has been a family favorite since our kids were little and trips to California always included a visit to the Planetarium. The shows at the planetarium are fun, educational, and family friendly (a bonus for any type of museum). The content appeals to all ages and there is always something new to learn, shows are offered in the daytime and evening.”

Maerie Baniqued | Executive Assistant

Museum: Royal London Wax Museum

“The museum I went to in Canada was about the Royalties. They had Princess Diana and Prince Charles lookalikes at the time. It was great. I felt like I was seeing them in real life.”

Betsy Burton | VP of Research

Museum: San Francisco Zoo

The San Francisco Zoo……because “its all happening at the zoo.

Ken Dulaney | VP of Research

Museum: The Art Institute of Chicago

“It’s not massive like the Louvre and it has a wide selection of Impressionist art, probably my favorite area.  And downstairs in the basement are the Thorne Miniature Rooms which are small replicas of rooms built in the past to show various styles of architecture. The real exciting part of the display is that you peer through a small window into the rooms and it appears as though you are really standing in the room itself.”

Craig Kennedy | Sr. Director of Research

Museum: Wings of History Air Museum

“Wings of History Air Museum at San Martin Airport. It’s a non-profit that operates on donations and membership dues and has a great collection of historic aircraft on display”

Adam Pease | Associate Analyst

Museum: SFMOMA

“I love the SFMOMA because of its incredible collection of modern and contemporary art from around the world. Every time I visit, I feel inspired by the creativity and diversity of the artists and their work.”

Bob Sweeney | VP of Sales

Museum: National Museum of American History

“Just the chance to see some of the significant visual pieces of the history of the United States…in person is very moving.  Although our country may be “young” compared to others, the amount that has been experienced and accomplished is incredible.”

James Lundy | Client Success & Sales Manager

Museum: The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

“It is a fascinating museum that houses an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. I think  the museum’s exhibits are beautifully curated, and the displays give insight into what life was like in ancient Egypt.  I love that the museum also offers a range of educational programs and events, making it a great destination for both adults and children.”

Paula Quiroz | Sr. Marketing Manager

Museum: Broad Museum & LA Museum of Contemporary Art

“One of my favorite hobbies is museum hopping. Nothing beats grabbing a coffee and hitting a couple of art exhibits. Two of my favorite museums are the Broad Museum – which features some of my favorite artists like Yayoi Kusama and Jeff Koons – and The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art – which houses works by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera!”

Cindy Khantushig | Marketing Associate

Museum: Chabot Space & Science Center

“I love going to Chabot to expand my space and science knowledge. The museum makes learning interactive and fun through their different on-hand spaces and through their planetarium shows. They even host classes to make your very own telescope. Plus if the weather is optimal, you can view through their telescopes!”

Brandon Mayers | Marketing Intern

Museum: Casa Batlló by Gaudi

“One of my favorite museums is the Casa Batlló by Gaudi in Barcelona, Spain. This specific museum stood out to me because of its mesmerizing and complex colorful artwork which is seen throughout the building. The unique architecture combined with the colorful scenery is something I will remember for a lifetime.”
