If you’re familiar with Aragon Cares, you know that Aragon Research picks a new organization to support each and every month–whether through a donation or other volunteer efforts. But every time December comes around, we don’t have to think hard about what we’ll do–we always choose the Adopt-A-Family program (hosted by St. Catherine of Alexandria church in Morgan Hill, CA)! This blog will discuss the organization we worked with and our experience volunteering with them this year.
The mission
It’s ALWAYS a good time to help those in need and give back to the community, but there are even more opportunities to do so around the Holidays. While many people enjoy the Holidays and shower their loved ones with gifts, this is not the case for many families who lack even basic necessities.
The St. Catherine’s church website states, “Some children cannot go to social events, expect certain toys for Christmas or their birthday, or even have a Christmas tree because their families cannot afford these expenses.”
Thankfully, there are many organizations like St. Catherine’s church that work to support these children and families and make their holidays just a little easier. The website goes on to state that “fortunately, the families of St. Catherine Parish have the Parish Giving Tree / Adopt A Family Christmas Program to help make the dreams of their children come true…”
How it Works
The Adopt-A-Family program is designed to help families, who without help, wouldn’t be able to have any gifts to open this holiday season. It matches these families with willing volunteers, who purchase and deliver gifts requested by the adopted family!
Families in need of gifts are able to request specific items they need or would like to receive. It is great knowing that the items you purchase for your adopted family will be of great use to them, or simply bring them joy!
Our 2021 Experience
Aragon adopted two families this year! After viewing the gift wishes of each family member, we shopped to find the best options, purchased the gifts, and wrapped them with Christmas wrapping paper and bows.
We then got in touch with our families to deliver the gifts! It felt amazing to have some (socially distant and safe) human connection with this Aragon Cares event, as most have been virtual through the pandemic.
Bottom Line
While the adopt-a-family program we worked with is located in Morgan Hill, CA, we encourage you to find a similar adopt-a-family or giving tree program in your area – there are so many out there!
