February Aragon Cares: Stomp Out Cancer Virtual Run

by Kalyn Stockman

While it’s nice for all of our team members to get together at the same time to participate in an activity, like when we cooked a meal at the Ronald McDonald house, sometimes on a busy work week it is just not realistic. With our team members spread out between San Francisco, Morgan Hill, LA, and a few other locations, we got creative with our Aragon Cares activity for this month. We participated in a ‘virtual run’, through the Virtual Run Events organization.

The Event

When I first heard about this organization, I was a little confused by how it might work. A virtual run? Well, it’s really pretty simple. You simply pay a registration fee to Virtual Run Events, receive your running bib in the mail, and participate in the race from anywhere you want. And, the distance is up to you. You can choose to run 1 mile, a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or full marathon.

The Cause

Whether you participate from a gym, a track, or a nearby park, you’ll know that you are contributing to a great cause every step of the way. This is because each month, Virtual Run Events supports a different charity by sending a percentage of the registration fees to them. On top of monetary donations to the charity, Virtual Run Events also helps spread awareness of the cause through their marketing efforts. This month, the virtual run was in support of Stand Up To Cancer, which funds and develops treatments for cancer. For this reason, the specific event we participated in was called ‘Stomp Out Cancer’.

Our Contribution

The members of team Aragon participated in a few different locations. A group of us headed out to a park near our Morgan Hill headquarters, while others participated in the streets of San Francisco and under the warm Manhattan Beach sun. This is the nice thing about a virtual race–you can complete it anywhere you are comfortable, and at any pace you prefer!

This event was one that team Aragon found rewarding, fun, and easy to participate in. We’re already planning our next virtual run for April!
