Our seventh high tech gift in our 12 Technologies of Christmas blog series will be sure to delight the beauty guru in your life!

by Patricia Lundy

As someone who loves—or even obsesses over—skincare and make-up, I’m always trying to find the perfect holiday gifts for my friends and family members who are beauty junkies just like me. Make-up from my go-to brands like Pat McGrath is always a safe bet, as is skincare products from Tatcha or Drunk Elephant. But this year, I came across a high tech beauty gift that is truly special. It’s not exactly cheap (it ranges from $169-249) but it’s so worth it—so if you’re looking to splurge and impress a special someone, this is it.

The LightStim uses light therapy to benefit your skin and speed healing. It’s handheld, so it’s easy to take with you wherever you go!

The LightStim is a gift that provides real, long-lasting results, and I can speak to this from experience! An added benefit: it’s great for men and women alike—there’s one product in particular that would be perfect for your athletic friends or family members. Read on to learn why it should make your wishlist this year, because you’ll definitely want to get this for yourself!

What Is the LightStim?

The LightStim is a professional grade, FDA-cleared, LED light therapy device, and its results are backed by science. It uses UV-free light of different wavelengths to create a variety of clinically-proven benefits when applied directly to your skin. These include reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, increased skin elasticity, increased blood circulation, and treating skin conditions such as acne and rosacea.

In dermatology and plastic surgery, light therapy has been long used to help heal and accelerate the healing process of post-procedure skin, wounds, burns, and even certain forms of skin cancer. It’s non-invasive and not painful. The amazing thing is that LightStim says its consumer devices are the same professional strength as its lights for dermatologists—just in a portable format—so you’re essentially getting medical-grade treatment in the comfort of your own home!

How Do I Use the LightStim? What Is it Like?

I tried the LightStim for the first time at my dermatologist’s office. It feels warm and soothing, like sitting on a sunny beach—without any of the skin damage. It’s definitely a therapeutic experience, and makes you feel like you’re at the spa! Imagine coming home from a vacation where you might have gotten a little too much sun, and being able to reduce that sun damage with a device you can use anytime you’d like.

Using the LightStim is simple. After cleansing your face, apply the LightStim PhotoSerum that comes with your device—you can also go sans-serum—and turn on your LightStim. Next, gently touch the device to your skin and hold it there for three minutes. Once your time is up, move the device to the next area of your face or neck and repeat until you have treated all of the areas you wish to treat. LightStim says it takes 8 weeks to start seeing a noticeable difference, and the company recommends using the device two to three times a week to maintain your results.

Which One Is the Perfect Fit?

LightStim offers three at-home devices, each with a different purpose. You can choose the one best suited for your needs—or whoever you’re gifting it to.

Where Can I Find It?

You can find LightStim at your favorite beauty and skin stores, including Sephora, Dermstore, Bloomingdale’s, and more. The hardest choice will be choosing just one for underneath the Christmas tree—or perhaps you might even try to collect them all!
