Software AG Acquires Built.io for Hybrid and Cloud Integration

by Jim Sinur

On September 28th, Software AG announced the acquisition of Built.io, a San Francisco-based iPaaS company, to extend Software AG’s webMethods Integration Platform.

While the primary motivation was to support hybrid and cloud integration, there is more to the deal to consider. Built.io brings an easy-to-use and easy-to-develop integration capability to Software AG’s customers and prospects.

Built.io: The Early Years

Built.io was founded in 2007 by Nishant Patel, Neha Sampat, and Matthew Baier. Their innovation was recognized early by Aragon Research: Built.io was named a Hot Vendor in 2015 when it showed its prowess in market-focused mobile development.

Since then, Built.io has become known as an iPaaS offering that offers industrial-grade performance that enterprises can count on. In recent years, Built.io has also excelled at integrating and leveraging streams of real-time data, particularly inside of major sports arenas. See this sample case study as an example of the types of solutions Built.io can offer.

Software AG: Digital All the Way

Software AG, based in Darmstadt, Germany, offers a full digital business platform that serves multiple industries and leverages its rich software inventory and key partnerships with IoT to deliver Industry 4.0 and digital solutions. Software AG has a sweet spot in linking companies in commerce ecosystems through shared processes and integration.

Software AG believes that cloud integration is a vital part of digital transformation, with 80% of the work in IoT projects related to integration. In an environment of decentralized IT architectures based on microservices, APIs, and events, integration is a critical capability enabling end-to-end processes and improving customer experiences. Speed and flexibility in implementing integration projects are playing an increasingly important role in business success.

Software AG and Built.io: Better Together

With the acquisition, Built.io and its current CEO Nishant Patel will merge with Software AG. This acquisition enhances Software AG’s innovative digital business platform that excels in B2B integration and deep integration to newer and fast-growing developer communities that are tending toward innovative solutions.

For Software AG Customers and Prospects

Built.io will allow for increased speed and flexibility in implementing integrations necessary for digital transformation projects that demand more cloud integration going forward.

For Built.io Customers and Prospects

Software AG provides a solid cornerstone digital business platform for those organizations that are seeking automated innovations with integrated digital technologies.

Bottom Line

We think this is a good combination as Industry 4.0 solutions will likely require dynamic hybrid cloud integrations that depend on quick development periods. Cloud integration is a busy on-ramp to digital transformation and this on-ramp now has a higher speed limit.
