Aragon Cares 2022: GivingTuesday
The season of giving is upon us! The Aragon Research team is gearing up to give back to our community with our annual Adopt-A-Family with St. Catherine’s Church in Morgan Hill.
As the team starts picking out presents for families in December, we are taking this Tuesday to take a look back on our past Aragon Cares events for this year.
We hope these inspire you to get involved and check out all the great organizations out there in need of support.
About GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday started in 2012 as a day to encourage people to do good by giving back to others. It is now an independent nonprofit organization and global movement focused on spreading generosity.
There is no deed that is too small or big for the day – it can be anything from paying for a coffee for the next person in line, volunteering, or giving a monetary donation. Those are just three of the many available opportunities to give back.
Ways You Can Give Back
Here are three organizations Aragon has supported this year and the ways you can help out.
1. Volunteer In-Person – Loaves and Fishes, San Jose
Loaves and Fishes in San Jose, California is a non profit organization that provides meals for hungry and homeless families, children, seniors, veterans, students, and disabled individuals.
In February, the Aragon team went to the Loaves and Fishes office in San Jose to help pack brown bag lunches that were distributed throughout the week to those in need. We were able to pack 200 lunches in 2 hours and with the rest of the volunteers’ efforts, Loaves and Fishes packed over 500 lunches in a single day.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
You can make a donation that will continue the work to provide healthy and nutritious meals to families in need or volunteer your time! If you’re interested in the lunch packing activity we did, you can sign up for a shift on their website.
2. Host a Fundraiser – Aragon’s 1st Annual Golf Classic
In April, Aragon hosted our 1st Annual Golf Classic to raise money for Child Advocates of Silicon Valley. The event took place at a top-rated golf course in the Bay Area: Cinnabar Hills Golf Club.
The fundraiser included a 18-hole course, invitation to enjoy a cocktail hour, participate in our silent auction, and speak to some representatives from Child Advocates of Silicon Valley to learn more about the organization.
We are proud to say we raised over $4000 for this amazing cause!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
You can even host your own fundraiser – it does not have to be a big event, even a small fundraiser with friends, family, or neighbors can be a huge help.
In addition, you can make a donation or sign up to be a volunteer at Child Advocates of Silicon Valley to provide support for foster children and youth directly.
3. Volunteer from Your Home – Love For Our Elders
In July, the Aragon Research team gathered together to write letters for Love For Our Elders to help combat loneliness and social isolation among older adults.
Love For Our Elders is an organization working to combat loneliness among seniors through writing letters that show someone is thinking about them.
We gathered the essential letter writing tools – pen and paper, but also fun stickers and markers to make them pop! Then, we all chose someone to write to from their letter request to start writing!
This was a fun way to give back and easy to do from the office or home.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
You can join Love for Our Elders’ mission by picking up a pen and paper and writing to a senior in need of love. Every month, Love For Our Elders puts up new letter requests for elders needing company on their ‘Write A Letter’ page. You can write solo or gather your family and friends to send out some letters.
You can also make a monetary donation to Love for Our Elders. Donations help support the foundation by providing grants for materials for high school and college writing chapters, raising public awareness, and hosting their website.
