Employee Engagement in the Modern Workplace

By Paula Quiroz

What is Employee Engagement?

Employee engagement, also known as employee experience, are the strategies organizations use to leverage new technologies that speed up employee recruiting, onboarding, and continuous skill development.

“To keep [employees], you have to keep them engaged,” said CEO and lead Analyst at Aragon Research during his Employee Engagement and the New Way of Work webinar.

Post COVID – Lessons Learned in the Workplace

Undoubtedly, the world is different since COVID first emerged–the workplace is no different.

Several factors that resulted post-Covid such as the Great Resignation, hybrid work as companies adjust to new employee needs, and the current recession pull the workforce towards new trends.

Employees are collaborating, communicating, learning, and thinking about their careers very differently.

Performance management tools that only track employee productivity instead of engaging employees are now outdated.

• Workplace Technology Trends

The modern workplace is turning towards new trends to improve communication and collaboration.

However, currently, providers don’t quite meet all of the employee engagement needs: device learning, application management, and analytics tools.

Technology is advancing and so is the workplace; team collaboration tools are on the rise.

As Aragon CEO, Jim Lundy said, “The bottom line is that team collaboration tools are here to stay and it’s become a critical part of hybrid work.”

Jim goes on to say, “We see this trend continuing until 2025 when team collaboration overtakes email as the primary way of collaborating inside and outside the enterprise.”

• Modern Employee Learning

When it comes to building their team’s skills, managers, directors, chiefs, HR reps, and other team leaders should strive to go beyond just tracking the skill course employees are taking.

Quality content and coaching is key to ensuring today’s employees are learning the way they want to learn and in a way that is more effective.

For example, employees want to learn with short form video–also known as micro video for the enterprise.

Another learning tool to look out for is chatbots! Chatbots are being trained to coach employees(See our Upcoming Webinar for more on Conversational AI).

It is important to not dismiss artificial intelligence; Not all workplace coaching will be done by human in the near future.

Preparing Your Workplace Employee Engagement Strategy

The bottom line is that those who are not engaging their team and adapting, may have a higher turnover.

Preparing a strong workplace strategy is essential.

CEO, Jim Lundy shares some tips:

• Develop a hybrid work strategy

• Evaluate employee engagement providers

• Make time for regular coaching

• Evaluate Micro-video for sharing knowledge
