Google’s Duet AI Will Challenge Microsoft 365 CoPilot

By Jim Lundy

Google Duet AI for Google Workspace Will Challenge Microsoft 365 CoPilot

Google held its annual Google I/O developer conference today and a significant part of what they announced was Google Duet AI, a new AI-powered tool that makes work easier.

Duet AI is a web-based application that uses artificial intelligence to help users with a variety of work tasks. To us, Duet AI will perform very well versus Microsoft 365 CoPilot

Duet AI Features “Help Me Write”

This is a core feature of Duet – the Help Me Write. It is available in Docs, Gmail, and Slides. It helps users get writing and presentations done. See more below:

Google also announced that scheduling can be automated.

Google Vs Microsoft in Generative Content and the Digital Workplace

Clearly, the battle is on between Google and Microsoft when it comes to making Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 more AI-enabled. While both firms have compelling demos to us, the Duet AI demo that was unveiled today looked much more polished than the demos Microsoft presented in March.

Pricing also matters, and while neither firm has announced firm pricing, we expect both firms to offer enterprises easy ways for enterprises to get started. However, it does mean it it will be free. In some cases, Aragon Research estimates firms could pay up to 50% more.

Google Duet AI – Still in Beta -Bard Expanded Testing

Duet AI is still in expert test mode. Given where it is, to us it looks like it is ready for primetime. One thing we think is holding up the launch is pricing. Google needs to decide what to charge for it.

Google Bard Jumps Ahead of Bing Search

Conversational Search is here. For Google Bard, it is significantly better than several months ago. To get started, any Google user with a Personal Account can use Bard. To us, Bard seemed much more refined than ChatGPT or Bing. Google announced that an early preview is available for Google Workspace customers in the coming days. Look for more analysis of the rise of Conversational Search – in upcoming research from Aragon.

Bottom Line

Google Duet AI is still in preview mode, but at Google I/O Google demonstrated that it has been hard at work. Duet AI has the potential to make a significant impact on the way we work.

By offering strong writing, automating repetitive tasks, and summarizing sorting information, Google Duet AI can free up our time so we can focus on more creative and strategic work.

The battle between Microsoft and Google for the AI-enabled digital workplace is on and we will be watching it and analyzing it closely.
