The Emerging tPaaS Market: Watch This Space

by Betsy Burton

Yesterday, I was pleased to be able to participate in Aragon Research’s June 2021 Transform Tour. It was a very exciting and dynamic event.

The first presentation featured two of my colleagues Jim Lundy and Craig Kennedy discussing the new world of work and evolving technologies to support new hybrid work environments. The second session was a panel hosted by Jim Lundy with our panelists from Avaya, ContentSquare, and Cisco. They discussed what the new world of work looked like, and how their organizations are working differently to empower and enable their employees and customers to work effectively.

I had the pleasure of doing the last session which built on the previous sessions. My session was focused on how an organization will need to support business transformation. We are all recognizing that we are working differently, and particularly seeing the blurring between the physical and virtual world. This is driving organizations to support their business completely differently.

At Aragon Research we are introducing a new market that we see emerging that is focused on providing business services to help organizations truly transform their business as well as the technologies to help them execute on it. In this blog, I will explore a few of the highlights of our market introduction presentation.

iPaaS Enables Business Automation

The iPaaS market has existed for years and is primarily focused on helping organizations integrate technology both inside and outside of their organization. iPaaS largely helps organizations automate their business. In other words, enabling organizations to use technology and services that minimize the amount and complexity of human work.

For many organizations automating the way they currently support their business has been extremely valuable. It has enabled them to gain more efficiencies and realize cost savings as they leverage technologies to support their business operations more effectively. But as we have seen digital business emerge and as we are entering into a new world of work, iPaaS is often not enough to support true business transformation.

tPaaS Enables Business Transformation

Business transformation is much more than automation. Business transformation is the process of specifically designing new business strategies, models, and operations to support new digital business models and changing existing solutions, systems, processes, and information to support new business models.

Business transformation requires more than just technology. It requires that organizations have access to the business-driven services that helped them reimagine their business in the new world of work. For this reason, we’re seeing a new market emerge: transformation platform as a service, or tPaaS.

tPaaS supports many of the integration platform services supported in iPaaS. However, tPaaS also supports many of the business modeling, strategy, design, and execution services that are required for organizations to redesign and think about their business in new ways.

Bottom Line

At Aragon Research, we are very excited to introduce this new market. We are already seeing early indications from some of the providers that they are working on these services. And we are seeing end-user organizations seeking this level of business services, as well as the technology services.

Over the next few months, we encourage you to keep your eye out for new research on this topic as we explore what this market means, its characteristics and leading providers.
