What’s New with Adobe’s Scan App? Machine Learning, GDPR, and More

by Nicole Speciale

On June 18th, 2018, Adobe announced new features for its Adobe Document Cloud, which offers app-based conversion and processing of PDF documents. Adobe Scan, powered by machine learning, offers improved ways of managing the exchange of paper-based information, like business cards. (Adobe Scan is available for free on iOS and Android smartphones.) This blog reviews some of the recent updates to Adobe Cloud.

What Is Adobe Scan?

Adobe Scan, which uses Adobe’s AI-based content analytics platform known as Sensei, is able to convert pictures, business cards, whiteboards, and documents into PDF format.

The updated version will be able to save info from business cards to a contact list through one-touch functionality. For Adobe Document Cloud subscribers, a copy of this information is saved to the cloud storage locker. Adobe Scan can also identify objects that may compromise the quality of the scan (like fingers) and remove them. Email addresses can also be detected with 99% accuracy and if a name or number is not identified correctly, then machine learning can suggest likely answers.

LinkedIn Access and GDPR Compliance

Integrations with Microsoft Dynamics now allow Adobe Sign to access user information on LinkedIn, which is one of the ways Adobe is making improvements to meet the needs of the fast-paced and changing workforce. In addition, Adobe Sign now features a self-service GDPR tool and offers the capability for Acrobat DC and Office 365 users to create PDFs within the web-based formats of Microsoft offerings like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others.

New Integrations with Microsoft 365

Adobe announced new integrations of Adobe Sign and Adobe PDF with Microsoft Dynamics and Office 365, which means that Microsoft Dynamics users can use data from LinkedIn Sales Navigator. Adobe Sign is also now authorized by the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), which provides adherence regulations—including GDPR—for federal agencies. Overall, Adobe made several huge announcements and it is improving its offerings to keep up with the requirements of the fast-paced workforce.

Adobe is not standing still. It has doubled down on the Adobe Document Cloud and it is making it easier to capture content and make it actionable. Adobe Sign now offers more integrations and it is fully FedRAMP-compliant. The U.S. federal government has always been a great channel for Adobe and with FedRAMP, they now can accomplish more in that market.
