What types of businesses are most at risk for a cyberattack?
Malware and ransomware are one of the most prevalent crimes today and cybercriminals are extremely good about selecting their victims. Security should be a top priority for enterprise leaders; it is no longer a nice-to-have.
Cyberattacks are targeting organizations more likely to pay the ransom because they cannot afford to have downtime and have sensitive information to retrieve such as:
- Schools
- Critical infrastructure
- Hospitals
- Government Agencies
If you have valuable data, you are a target.
What are some warning signs of a cybersecurity incident and what are the initial steps I should take if I suspect a cyberattack on my business?
The biggest warning signs is any change in normal behavior.
For instance, higher than normal traffic on your site, especially outward traffic on your site, should be looked into and monitored closely.
It is important to have alerts set up to notify you when changes happen.
One thing Craig stresses is that if you’re trying to think of what to do as you are being attacked, it’s too late.
Everyone should have a detailed plan set up prior to being attacked. Being proactive is key.
