Introducing the New Digital Operations Blog Series

This is the first in a series of weekly blogs focused on digital operations, one of a triad of topics we cover in depth at Aragon Research, the other two being digital business and digital workplace.

This digital operations blog series will initially focus on two specific areas that are critical for enterprises to consider when transforming to digital, cloud computing, and enterprise security.

Digital Operations and Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has been with us for a number of years, and although quite mature there continues to be significant innovation that enterprises need to stay aware  of to retain their competitive edge.

Over the years, we have progressed from using discrete public clouds to being able to create private clouds on existing enterprise infrastructure to seamlessly combining these into hybrid clouds.

Now we are able to deploy a fully distributed multi-cloud environment with the ability to easily observe and manage workloads across multiple cloud providers.

One of the latest trends in cloud computing is the migration of latency-sensitive workloads away from a centralized cloud and onto edge devices.

And although edge computing is not within the strict definition of cloud computing, we will cover it in detail as it’s critical to an enterprise’s overall digital operations.

Digital Operations and Enterprise Security

While there’s a lot to cover in cloud computing, the other big conversation that enterprises aren’t having often enough is around enterprise security.

The challenge today for enterprises is the sheer volume and sophistication of cyberattacks, and the unprepared state of many enterprises to deal with these attacks.

Aragon’s approach when discussing security is to make it inclusive, not exclusive, which is a shift in thinking that we’re discussing with many business executives.

Security today is no longer an IT issue, it’s a business issue and there’s not enough awareness within many enterprises on how severe the threat really is.

Education about the sheer number of threats that enterprises face and the potential ramifications of a security breach on the business will go a long way in focusing resources towards addressing any deficiencies.

Digital Operations and Automation & Operational Efficiency

Within the digital operations blog series, you will find an underlying theme of automation and operational efficiency.

Digital operation is all about operating at scale with minimal to no human intervention, which requires intelligent automation.

Whether managing a complex multi-cloud environment across disparate cloud providers or keeping your entire digital infrastructure secure, automation is the secret sauce in getting it done repeatedly and efficiently.

Bottom Line

While everyone talks about being digital and digital transformation, the path to this future state is through digital operations.

While the focus will be on cloud and security, we’ll continue to talk about what it takes to build an efficient and secure digital operation both in this blog series and in our syndicated research
