The Race to Cover AI and Why Real Expertise Matters

The Race to Cover AI and Why Real Expertise Matters

Aragon Research took a huge leap of faith in 2017 when we announced coverage of Intelligent Content Analytics which we now simply call, Content AI.

No one was covering Content AI back then. Now, suddenly many influencers and analysts have proclaimed themselves as artificial intelligence (AI) experts. This blog discusses the pattern of fast followers on artificial intelligence and why there is a growing difference between influencers and those that advise.

It is Hard to Fake It

Since we have been covering AI for so long, it is easy to tell when vendors are bluffing on it. Lately, we have seen more vendors leaning in and often asking for advice, instead of trying to claim they have it. This was a trend from 2019 to 2022.

Enterprise Connect: Aragon as the Lone Ranger Discussing AI

If we jump back to March 2023, Aragon spoke at Enterprise Connect for the very first time. We did it, because there was no coverage on sight at the event in 2022. We reached out to the conference organizer to offer assistance, however, the presentations were nailed down well before the December 2022 announcement of ChatGPT.

At the event, there was a race by panelists to discuss the impact of ChatGPT on Communication and Collaboration in Contact Center industries. Yet at the event, as far as real presentations went, I gave the only artificial intelligence presentation.

My Conversation with Jonathan Yarmis on Facebook

It isn’t just Aragon Research noticing the race to cover artificial intelligence and a lack of knowledge around it.

Former legendary Gartner Analyst, Jonathan Yarmis, mused this week that he was also noticing this rush to cover AI by people who had never covered it before. In his post, most of the comments were in full agreement.

Bottom Line: AI Needs to be Understood by Everyone

The age of AI is here! The push from OpenAI with their ChatGPT launch has made many realize that there is a need to learn about artificial intelligence and all its possibilities.

It is a competitive world out there and for any enterprise that offers products and services, it is a must-do to have a roadmap for AI very soon, in the next 18-36 months.
