Hybrid Cloud Is the Way

Hybrid Cloud Is the Way

By Jim Lundy

I filmed an upcoming video podcast yesterday and the topic was Hybrid Cloud in Unified Communications and Collaboration (UC&C).

This blog recaps some of the key takeaways from that podcast.

Why Is Hybrid Cloud a Growing Topic In UC&C

Suffice to say, private cloud–a managed service–is offered by just a few UC&C Providers. It is a response to customer requests.

It is also a reality that Containerization is much easier to implement in 2022 than even 3 years ago.

So for every vendor that says SaaS is the only way forward – I say think Hybrid. Security, Privacy and Data Residency are just some of the reasons.

The Bad Guys Want to Listen to You

The simple reality is that not all Cloud services are secure.

Even encryption keys can be stolen and trust me the stakes are high. This means that in some industries some communications needs to be highly secure.

The Governments Wants Your Data

Sometimes it isn’t the bad guys, it is a government that wants to look at what your firm is doing

What do they do when they want your data? They serve a warrant to your cloud provider–without your knowledge.

Data Residency

Some companies and many countries have laws that prevent data from leaving their place of origin.

That means Cloud providers need to have a Cloud Data Center in that country or if in the European Union, in the EU.

Germany is one country that has gotten stricter.

Feature Loss

In some cases, some applications, such as Telephony, will offer fewer capabilities in the Cloud version than with the On-Premise version. It is important to check – what you will give up.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that Hybrid Cloud matters in UC&C and it is part of a new playbook that vendors are offering.

What this all means is that Private Cloud offerings are to be looked at carefully–and I have only just touched the surface of the issues in this blog.

Check out our research on Hybrid Cloud and UCC and talk to us about your needs.
