Digital Identity
Digital identity is made up of an entity’s information that is used by computer systems and represents an external agent. Agents can come in the form of a person, organization, application, or device. Just as human identity is a combination of attributes and characteristics, a Digital Identity is a collection of cyberspace-specific components. Usernames, passwords, SSN, online search activities and transactions, email address and medical history may all be pieces comprising Digital Identity.
Authentication of Digital Identity is crucial because of widespread identity theft, and therefore certain measures must be in place so that the security of online infrastructure remains intact.
