Machine Vision

Machine vision refers to the tools and methods used to enable machines—including industrial robots—to inspect and control manufacturing processes. Machine vision is also a critical component of many autonomous systems, which rely on it to establish their current state or context.

As machine vision technologies mature, they enable a wider array of activities by reducing risks and anomalies. Self-driving cars use machine vision to recognize roads, other cars and objects in the road, such as people.

Representative vendors of machine vision technologies include Cognex, Datalogic, Google, National Instruments, Omron Microscan, Samsara, and ViDi Systems, among other vendors.
