Microsoft currently offers a hybrid model, allowing employees to work from home for at least half of the week. According to reports, Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of the Cloud and AI group, reassured employees that a stricter policy isn’t being considered right now—so long as productivity metrics remain strong. Yet, Microsoft hasn’t clarified what these productivity metrics are, leaving the door open for future policy shifts based on subjective benchmarks.
This cautious approach is a stark contrast to Amazon’s recent move. Earlier this year, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced a full-time return-to-office policy, sparking backlash among employees who were hired under different expectations. The move led to discontent, with some employees “rage applying” for new positions and others protesting the sudden change.
