BYOD, Mobile & Cloud – An Afternoon With UT Dallas
By Mike Anderson
Yesterday was Friday the 13th, and I had the good fortune to spend the afternoon with Dr. Michael Savoie of UT Dallas. Michael is Director of the Center for Information Technology and Management in the School of Management. The “An Afternoon With …” program provides a two-hour forum to address prominent IT topics.
An Afternoon With …
My topic was the major trends causing revolution in the workplace, which at the core of our focus at Aragon Research. The “An Afternoon With …” sessions are more like fireside chats than presentations. For about two hours we had an interactive discussion, and sometimes debate, about how individuals and business are in the midst of disruptive change, and are challenged to handle BYOD.
Much of our attention was on how cloud, mobile and social are turning work and workplace on end, demanding new approaches in so many different dimensions that maintaining a semblance of order is elusive. Mobile is the new computing, tablets are the new PC and BYOD is creating a new business perimeter for the workplace. Those trends are proving to be a handful.
BYOD: Empowerment, Flexibility, Responsiveness
In a university setting it was not difficult for the messages of empowerment, flexibility and creating a more social and responsive work environment to resonate. Business has some work to do before these values can be turned into workplace reality.
