Business architecture (BA) is a subdomain of enterprise architecture (EA) and acts as a formal blueprint to help bridge the gap between a company’s strategy and their successful execution of the corporate vision. It is an integral component to EA because executive leaders should have a holistic and integrative view of business and technology to make investment decisions.

It transfers this strategy into clear actionable objectives by defining the enterprise in terms of governance, business processes, and business information. In defining these foundational frameworks, it considers the customer, finances, market, organizations, partners, strategic goals, capabilities, and key initiatives.

Any business—small or large—can use business architecture to improve their current state and ensure their organization is properly aligned.
