Is a Drone Part of Your Future Security Plan 2.0?
by Jim Lundy and Adam Pease
This blog talks about why the enterprise needs to consider a drone as part of its security strategy. While it’s been used in the military for years, there is ongoing attention to the use of drones in the enterprise for a number of different tasks.
Why Drones Are Coming to Your Enterprise
Some of the newest drones on the market can do a fantastic job of taking high-quality photos. This is a new area of attention for the enterprises.
Some of the things drones can do—they provide a higher level view of a specific area. Now they can also track users or objects. They also provide high quality imaging—1080 to 4K and soon more. That level of image quality makes them ideal for sporting events, for security, and for real estate use cases. Fishermen and farmers are even using drones to find fish and livestock.
The New DJI Drone Air 2s
One of the new drones from Industry Pioneer DJI is the new Air 2s. This is an incredible drone at its current price point of ~$1,000. As more drones like this become cheaply available, we can expect more small and medium enterprises to catch onto the unique benefits afforded by drones.
Why You Should Plan to Have Drones in Addition to the Security Cameras
One of the most valuable applications of drones is in security. The problem with security cameras is that they are fixed with a specific range of motion. As a result, bad actors can learn how to elude the fixed motion of the camera and carry out theft or other crimes without being recognized by the camera system.
Drones, by contrast, have the advantage of a birds-eye-view as well as the ability to track and identify objects. For enterprises that want a full-fledged security system, drones are an excellent investment.
Bottom Line
Drones are coming to the enterprise in a big way. As prices drop, capabilities such as computer vision improve, and new drones show that they can meet new use cases in the enterprise. When planning ahead, consider how a drone could supplement your existing business processes, or how its advantages over the classic security camera may make it a worthwhile investment for your enterprise surveillance system.
