MuleSoft Agent Fabric Centralizes AI Orchestration and Governance
Salesforce recently announced the launch of MuleSoft Agent Fabric, which is designed to manage and secure the rapidly expanding ecosystem of AI agents within the enterprise.
We have discussed the importance of AI and Agent governance previously . MuleSoft Agent Fabric is designed to address the fragmentation of AI agents by transforming unmanaged, siloed agents into a coordinated, intelligent, and secure network.
However, we remain wary that MuleSoft will have a significant impact on the generalized AI agent markets and will be primarily used within the Salesforce ecosystem.
What Was Announced
MuleSoft Agent Fabric is designed to serve as a control plane to register, orchestrate, govern, and observe AI agents, regardless of its origin. It essentially acts as a traffic controller, ensuring disparate AI bots and applications work together safely and efficiently across multi-vendor environments.
The core capabilities, which are generally available or becoming generally available in October 2025, include four key features:
- Agent Registry: A centralized catalog for every AI agent and tool, making them discoverable and reusable across the organization, which prevents redundant development and promotes asset leverage.
- Agent Broker: An intelligent routing service that organizes agents into business domains and dynamically assigns tasks to the best-fit agent to execute complex, multi-step workflows seamlessly and securely.
- Agent Governance: Enterprise-grade guardrails that apply security, compliance, and policy controls to every agent interaction, enforcing consistency and adherence to corporate and regulatory requirements (with support for protocols like A2A and MCP .
- Agent Visualizer: A dynamic map that shows how agents connect, interact, and perform, providing real-time observability for IT teams to optimize efficiency and troubleshoot issues.
These capabilities represent a key innovation by moving the proven concepts of API governance and orchestration into the new domain of autonomous AI agents, making the chaotic rise of AI manageable at enterprise scale.
Market Impact
Agentic systems are inherently multi-system; they rely on connecting data and executing actions across diverse enterprise applications. While Salesforce offers a range of agents for its own applications, it is generally not perceived as one of the generalized market leaders of AI agents.
The launch of MuleSoft Agent Fabric is a necessary move to help strengthen Salesforce’s strategic position in the AI landscape by controlling the flow of action between agentic systems.
MuleSoft Agent Fabric Strengths
A key important aspect of MuleSoft Agent Fabric is that it serves as the governance and orchestration layer that allows Salesforce’s homegrown AI agents, like those created with Agentforce, to act outside of the Salesforce platform.
It leverages MuleSoft’s API connectivity to unlock data and trigger processes in third-party and legacy systems, effectively extending the reach of Salesforce’s AI across the entire enterprise.
This makes it a key investment for Salesforce-centric companies.
MuleSoft Agent Fabric Challenges
Agent Fabric faces a number of challenges as it enters the market. The most significant hurdle is the business and technology complexities of integrating and centralizing a large, existing collection of diverse agents from various vendors, which will demand substantial initial effort from development teams.
Moreover, as an enterprise solution from Salesforce, its premium pricing and licensing model will require organizations to demonstrate a clear and rapid ROI on the governance and orchestration capabilities to justify the added cost.
Last, but not least, the general market perception is that MuleSoft has lost a bit of its market position as an independent integration provider and is now widely viewed as an extension of the Salesforce ecosystem.
Bottom Line
It is great that these agent providers are beginning to think about and offering tools to manage the proliferation of AI agents.
Salesforce customers will likely see some major advantages of Agent Fabric; non-Salesforce customers will likely be more cautious about becoming tied to the Salesforce ecosystem (including configuration and pricing).
