Responding to the Tablet Invasion of Your Workplace
By Mike Anderson
I have been involved in the technologies and strategies in the workplace for many years. The changes with us today are more diverse, challenging and exciting than I’ve seen before.
We’ve approached tipping points in mobility, cloud and new approaches to connecting ourselves like social software. And this is happening at a time when new form factors like tablets and new user interface paradigms like touch and voice are fueling entirely new ways for people to engage with the power of computing.
At Aragon Research, we’re focused intensely on the forces and factors bringing change and new opportunities into the workplace. This month our attention turns to the phenomenon that is the Tablet Computer. In little more than a year and two product iterations we’ve witnessed dramatic uptake by business, and a reversal of direction regarding both Apple and personal devices. The iPad and Android tablets have moved so quickly into the workplace via empowered users and business managers that many organizations have had no time to respond.
The capabilities and opportunities that we’re seeing now have exciting potential for the workplace. Today, many of these systems and tools are still in an emergent stage, with much of the work needed to refine and mature ahead of us. Our upcoming research tackles these issues. In fact, it is happening with such speed that we are producing a special report that includes:
