High Definition Video era is here and H.265 and VP9 represent the next generation of Video Codecs to enable HD. It signals a new era of High Definition video delivered using up to half the bandwidth of most current Codecs.

Today, the production codec that is used in most video delivery solutions for HD quality is H.264. That said, movement is afoot to go further with better options to deliver the high quality without the high consumption of bandwidth. This research note discusses H.265, VP9 and the emerging battle between them to be the new video standard.
