Business Process Management (BPM)
Business process management (BPM) suites focus on the complete lifecycle of designing, implementing, and monitoring workflows tied to business processes to accomplish organizational goals. A business process is one or more activities that are aligned to a businesses strategy made up of employees, systems, workflows, and customers.
Process has traditionally played a role in orchestrating tasks and resources in optimal ways from a holistic viewpoint. Processes have generally been centrally controlled, broad, and deep in scope, but this is changing as other triggering and control mechanisms are beginning to take the lead. Processes are playing just as large of a role post-decision or after a signal/pattern of substance has been detected.
Increasingly, we are seeing emerging combinations of digital architectures and technologies in innovative ways. Process has proven to combine well with the the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, algorithms, machine learning, deep learning, microservices, integration capabilities, low-code development, and more. Process is key in managing the sequence of events in both static and dynamic fashions while supporting forms of parallel computing. Process has proven itself in the past and continues to be essential in digital solutions today.
