June Aragon Cares: Donating to City of Dreams
We are excited to tell you about our latest Aragon Cares activity. Avoiding hands-on activities due to COVID-19, we decided to make a monetary donation this month to an organization with an amazing mission: City of Dreams.
City of Dreams is local to Aragon HQ, with its efforts focused in the Bay Area, specifically the San Francisco Black community. While recent events have opened the eyes of many Americans to racism and systemic inequalities, the reality is that these occurrences have been prevalent throughout history. The systematic inequalities that the Black community faces can lead to poverty and limited opportunities for Black children—and this is happening in our own backyard.
City of Dreams was established in 2004 to serve youth, ages 8 and up, living in San Francisco’s low-income and public housing communities. The organization has helped fight inequality and provided enrichment opportunities for at-risk youth for nearly 15 years.
City of Dreams provides mentorship and programs for children to develop skills that will one day help them achieve their goals. One amazing thing about City of Dreams is that they personalize their curriculum based on the many factors of the individual children they see—they recognize that not all children are the same or learn the same way.
The City of Dreams website reads, “We are guided by a bold vision: To end the generational cycle of poverty in our city’s most challenged neighborhoods.” The team at Aragon was drawn to this cause and we hope that our small gesture will help them achieve their goals.
We look forward to continuing our Aragon Cares efforts and finding more amazing organizations that rely on donations to continue their work and change lives.
