The State of Generative Video

The State of Generative Video
Generative AI has made some major strides when it comes to the ability to synthesize and edit video from text and other sources. This blog reviews some recent developments in the generative video landscape and provides some reflections on the state of the market.
What Is Generative Video?
Generative video involves the use of AI models to alter video content or generate entirely new video content from scratch. Despite the rapid adoption and growth of generative AI overall, generative video remains one area of application that has been slower to catch on due to the limitations and challenges of working with video content.
Since the release of Stable Diffusion last year, there has been an explosion of work on generative video, as open source developers and enterprises explore how the same techniques that have been used to generate high-quality images can be leveraged to produce longform, consistent video content. Still, text-to-video offerings struggle to produce reliable and precise visual matches the desired user prompt.
Modelscope, Runway, and More
Challenges aside, lots of progress is being made in the pursuit of high-quality video. One major provider, RunwayML, recently released its Gen-2 model, which provides strikingly detailed and precise video content. Even so, Gen-2 struggles to generate content that would match the high-fidelity needs of enterprise use. Runway is already monetizing its product, which suggests to Aragon that the text-to-video market is poised to continue to grow.
There are also various open source models that have serious market potential. One such recently released model, Zeroscope, makes it possible for anyone with a strong graphics card to produce highly-detailed video content, though Zeroscope still struggles with precision. As fidelity continues to improve and the challenges with precision are addressed, we expect text-to-video AI to become a major source of the video content people consume in the near future. generative video generative video
Bottom Line
Generative video is an emerging subset of the generative AI market with major growth potential. As providers work out the kinks associated with video generation, we can expect this market to continue to expand.
