Five9 and Level AI: The race to Voice AI Agents
Enterprise contact centers face a harsh reality as they balance aging infrastructure with the urgent demand for automation. Waiting years to finish a complex cloud telephony migration before deploying modern artificial intelligence is no longer an acceptable strategy. On November 5, 2026, Five9 announced a definitive agreement to acquire Mountain View-based Level AI for $325 million in cash. This blog overviews the Five9 acquisition of Level AI and offers our analysis.
Why did Five9 announce the Level AI acquisition (after Salesforce/Cresta and Dialpad/ADA)
There is a race to grab AI firms that do Voice agents well. Five9 is buying Level AI to become the core conversation intelligence and AI application layer within the Five9 Genius CX Platform. Following a $39.4 million Series C round in July 2024, Level AI scaled to handle over one billion annual interactions for enterprises with 100 or more agents, including Chime, Gusto, Carta, Penske, OpenTable, and VistaPrint.
The acquisition brings a deep product portfolio launched over the past two years. This includes the Naviant AI Virtual Agents capable of outbound calling across 50 languages, the Phi knowledge bot for in-call guidance, QA-GPT for automated scorecards, and iCSAT, which calculates satisfaction across 100 percent of interactions by analyzing sentiment, resolution, and call transfers.
Under the hood, Five9 acquires Latitude, Level AI’s proprietary suite of seven domain-specific models introduced in July 2026. Rather than relying on expensive third-party frontier models, Latitude uses specialized engines like Orba for transcription, Redactor for dual-layer audio and text redaction, Attune for intent detection, and Crux for summarization. Having activated a native Five9 integration in mid-2026 and an Assembled workforce management integration in September 2026 to book coaching during low-occupancy schedule slots, Level AI will also continue to be sold as a standalone overlay for on-premises contact centers and third-party cloud platforms.
The Investment Multiple
The Five9/Level AI deal itself represents a 4 times multiple over the $74.4 Million that investors put into Level AI. Compared to Cresta, which Salesforce announced they were buying earlier this week, Investors will get a 9.57 times multiple based on the estimated 2.7 Billion deal. So Five9 got a better deal – but on the Salesforce / Cresta deal, Cresta was generating more revenue (estimated at $100M ARR) and had more customers – hence the higher multiple.
Analysis
Level AI was not a known provider in the overall AI Agent Space – and that probably helped to drive what we are calling a value deal for Five9. From an Aragon Research perspective, this deal has the gives Five9 an opportunity to sell into rival accounts. Because Level AI maintains pre-built integrations with Genesys Cloud CX, NICE CXone, Amazon Connect, Talkdesk, and Twilio, Five9 now owns an over-the-top software layer running directly on its fiercest competitors’ routing engines. Five9 can sell high-margin conversation intelligence and autonomous agents to enterprises locked into rival telephony contracts or legacy on-premises systems, capturing immediate software revenue while positioning Genius CX as the logical replacement when those legacy contracts expire.
Furthermore, acquiring the seven proprietary Latitude models insulates Five9 from the margin compression plaguing software vendors that wrap commercial large language models. That said, Five9 will face pressure to maintain and update those models. In high-volume contact centers across banking, healthcare, and insurance, paying third-party token fees for every second of voice transcription and redaction destroys profitability. By owning purpose-built models for redaction and intent, Five9 gains strict compliance control, lower latency, and predictable unit economics. This move forces rival contact center providers to either build their own small, task-specific language models and standalone overlay strategies or watch Five9 monetize their installed base from the top down.
What Enterprises Should Do
Enterprises running legacy on-premises systems or competing cloud contact centers should immediately evaluate Level AI as a standalone overlay to accelerate their automation roadmaps. You no longer need to rip and replace core telephony to deploy automated quality management, 100 percent interaction scoring via iCSAT, or Naviant virtual agents that evaluate self-service against human quality rubrics. Current Level AI customers operating on Genesys, NICE, or Amazon Connect must scrutinize their contract renewals and demand binding roadmap commitments from Five9 to ensure third-party integrations and workforce connectors like Calabrio and Assembled do not suffer from slower feature parity. Meanwhile, existing Five9 buyers should request a formal architecture briefing to understand how Level AI’s QA-GPT and Phi knowledge bot will merge with existing Genius AI modules and impact licensing tiers in 2027.
Bottom Line
Five9’s $325 million cash acquisition of Level AI decouples advanced conversation intelligence and agentic automation from underlying contact center telephony. By acquiring seven proprietary, task-specific AI models and a proven standalone overlay that integrates with rival cloud platforms, Five9 protects its software margins while creating an aggressive wedge into competitor accounts. Enterprise IT and customer experience leaders should leverage standalone AI overlays to capture immediate quality and self-service gains today, while locking in strict multi-platform support guarantees before signing new contact center contracts.
